The following week was pure chaos with barely a moment of respite. It was an exciting whirlwind of errands and phone calls to various services to get everything in order for the event.

The idea of throwing a human harvest party possessed me like a relentless beast, not letting me sit, or eat, or sleep for a moment without thinking about all the things that needed doing. And the best part was that Lana was the same. We’d both jumped into the deep end without any reservation, fear, or hesitation.

There was no real reason for the haste, except that we wanted to get it all done before Lana’s next demon event at the end of the month. Whether we could make it was another matter but we certainly were going to try.

I entered the Forked Tail through the kitchen entrance, feeling somewhat special I could enter the restaurant this way.

“Hello?” I shouted over the clattering of pots and pans. The sizzling food and delectable smells immediately whetted my appetite and I had to hold myself back or I’d eat it all.

“Hey, Demi,” Trevor replied from over by the stove. “Lana is in the storage room.”

I nodded and left him to his own devices. He didn’t seem like a very chatty sort and I had no desire to change that. I was here for Lana. And for our party, of course.

The doors to the storage rooms were wide open and I stepped in, amazed by how spacious it was without all the old stovetops and fridges and whatnot. Loud clattering and grumbling came from behind one of the remaining stacks of boxes.

“Hello,” I called, announcing my presence.

Lana emerged from behind the stack, knocking a box off the top. All sorts of things tumbled out, including a plasti box. White marbles spilt out onto the floor, clattering and shattering as they rolled everywhere.

“Oh, there are my baking beans,” Lana chimed brightly. “I wondered where they went.”

“I’m not picking those up,” I announced, despite already crouching down to collect them.

Lana bent down at the same time and we almost collided.“Oops,” she chuckled, her hand brushing against mine.

My chest tightened as I couldn’t look away. Despite all the flirting, we hadn’t really acknowledged the attraction hanging between us. There had been moments, tense looks and lingering touches but we hadn’t acted on any of them. Yet…

I cleared my throat, hoping to break the spell but there was no escaping Lana’s smouldering look. She inched closer and I was unable to move back, even though I knew better.

“Wait,” I whispered, just before her lips brushed against mine.

Lana paused and sighed. “You’re right.”

“I didn’t say anything.”

She pulled back, shattering the tension. “But you’re thinking it. Lusters and Gluttons shouldn’t get involved, especially not when they’re working together.”

“Right. Although mixing business and pleasure can be a lot of fun.”

“It can,” she replied thoughtfully. “But I don’t want to complicate things.”

"But what if we could keep it uncomplicated?"

"There's no such thing as uncomplicated sex. These human parties already stressful enough, I don't want to add more to it.
