Sunlight streamed through my windows. Too early. Needed coffee.

I sat up and licked the inside of my dry mouth. Toothbrush first, then coffee. Donovan lay next to me, his chest moving with the rhythm of his easy breathing. I pushed his hair off his forehead. He was so peaceful in sleep. Nothing like the pushy, demanding, and dominant side of himself that showed up last night.

Hottest. Sex. Ever.

I rolled to the edge of the bed and stood on shaky legs. Everything was sore. I didn’t think I was that out of shape, but damn. My muscles quivered as I took one tentative step forward. And promptly collapsed on a heap of clean laundry.

The booming laugh above me had me sitting up and pushing the tangle of hair out of my face. “Holy shit. Did you fall over when you tried to walk?”

I crossed my arms and glared at him. “You could get down here and help me up instead of sitting there laughing at me.”

“I’m sorry.” He wiped the tears away from his eyes. “But that was the funniest thing I’ve ever seen in my life. Are you okay?”

“I’m fine. Just a little sore.” And a lot mortified. “I’d like to see you try.”

“Please.” He stretched his arms over his head and cracked his knuckles. “I’m an expert walker. Been doing that shit since I was one. I’ve got this.”

He stood and smirked at me over his shoulder. He took two steps toward the bathroom, then veered to the side and crashed headfirst into the door frame. I laughed so hard I started choking while he spun in a circle holding his forehead.

“What the fuck?” He stumbled as he tried to right himself, his grip on the doorknob the only thing that kept him from crashing back down on the mattress.

“You’re drunk, go home.”

“I can’t walk home like this.” He rubbed a hand down his face and held the doorknob like it was his life raft in a turbulent sea. “Call my brother. Tell him to bring a wheelbarrow.”

I crawled around the bed, not trusting myself to stand yet. Once I made it to the bathroom door, Donovan took my hand and pulled me to my feet. I leaned against him as he leaned against me. The light from our palms barely glowed, both of us keeping our magic in check so we could reserve our energy for remaining upright.

Every one of my muscles, muscles I hadn’t even used last night, screamed in protest. A cramp shot through my calf and almost took me out, but I recovered just in time. We should’ve taken an ice bath before bed.

“This is ridiculous. We can’t stand like this all day.” I straightened my spine, testing my ability to stand on my own. When I didn’t tip over, I took a careful step into the bathroom and breathed out a sigh of relief when I didn’t hit my head on the vanity. “I think I’m okay.”

“I’ll just be here.” Donovan waved a hand around.
