Chapter Eleven

Fitch

Once more I was sat on the beach staring at the water at a total loss on how to even begin to consider if I should go and have it out with Shaun. I groaned for about the tenth time.

“If you continue to make those groaning noises, people will think you’re up to no good.” Mandy’s voice snapped me out of my head.

One glance at her smile and I shook my head. “Whatever ya have come to suggest, it’s a hard no.” A hard no that was as fucking hard as my dick. One that was unrelenting in expressing how much it wanted some action.

The taste of Shaun had set off a kind of chain reaction that left me in all kinds of pain, both mental and physical. Which I blamed on the smiling witch continuing to make her way to where I sat on the sand and had been for the last three hours, frying in the midday sun, too depressed to move and go into the water.

“What went wrong last night?” she questioned without preamble when she plonked herself down next to me, stretching out her tanned legs and crossing her ankles. Her thongs dropped to the sand, reminding me I’d forgotten to pick mine up after Shaun had practically run away from me.

“Everything,” I exclaimed dramatically with an enormous sigh.

She nudged my shoulder in a friendly way I wasn’t feeling. “It couldn’t have been all bad you kissed each other.”

I side-eyed her, knowing she had to have gotten that information from only one source—Shaun. “What else did he say?” Had he mentioned the tentacles?

I’m assuming that came up, which is why he’s freaking out at home and you’re acting all weird by not coming over to be with him.” She rubbed the side of her face, staring at the sea. “How did he put it? You’re unusual.”

My lips twitched. Trust Shaun. A warmth that had nothing to do with the sun working on cremating me filled the center of my chest. “He freaked out,” I stated. “We fell on the floor, broke some dishes and a chair in the restaurant when my other half decided that claiming him when we kissed was a good idea.”

Her head moved so fast in my direction, her hair whipped out and hit my face. “Oh boy, no wonder he’s freaking out!” She gave my arm a reassuring pat, a move that appeared to offer sympathy. It was hard to tell though with how her smile made my stomach dance unpleasantly. “Did you talk to him about it afterwards?”

It was hard to look at her when I squirmed at her directness. “Sort of. I told him I was an octopus, and that seemed to go alright… then…”

“Then?”

I ran a hand through my hair and went back to looking at the glimmering water, looking for answers. “I mentioned my octopus wanted to bite
