Three forms limped into the dimly lit barn. They collapsed onto the hay-strewn floor in pain and exhaustion. Tracy tiptoed to the barn peeped inside from a small slit in the wood no more than two inches wide.

“You failed! You blithering idiots. Can you not complete the simple task of killing one lone woman?” a hooded cloaked figure railed as they stood up from a regal chair.

The girl Hallie had seen in Jazzy Vibe looked up as she clutched her bleeding stomach.

“She’s a powerful witch. And she’s not alone, Mistress Helena,” Dara Winkle complained.

“Who stands with her?” Helena queried.

“I couldn’t see who it was. Some guy,” Dara coughed as pain racked her body.

The cloaked figure removed the hood from her striking red head and shook her hair out. She looked down at her three crumpled minions. Tracy clapped her hand over her mouth to muffle any sound she made.

“You disgust me. I should set the dogs on you,” Helena spat.

“Oh no, Mistress Helena. Please don’t. I promise to do better,” Dara begged. “I promised.”

“I don’t trust you. You have failed twice. Besides, you’re not fit to do anything right now. Too bad he didn’t kill you. It would have saved me the trouble. Get out of my sight. I can’t stomach the sight of you,” Helena ordered.

Dara and her companions crawled into another room. Helena took a turn around the perimeter of the barn. “I will not assign this task to another follower,” she spoke aloud. “I, Mistress Helena shall discover the identity of Hallie Chandler’s protector. And then I shall take extraordinary pleasure in killing him myself.”

She majestically returned to her throne chair and sat. She closed her eyes and plotted her next move. Tracy silently tiptoed away from the barn and hurried into the woods. She hid behind some bushes and watched the barn to be sure no one had heard or seen her. She couldn’t believe her eyes when Mistress Helena took off her hood. Mistress Helena and Tina Amore were the same person.
