“He’ll be there. We’ll have to find him, but he will be there. I hesitate to say this, but we actually need you. He’s a sucker for beautiful women, and if you don’t talk much, you can pull it off.” Ludwig fake-gagged into his fist, ruffling the feathers of the tiny blonde standing in front of him. Her lavender eyes narrowed at him, striking him down with her expression. He ignored her and continued, “Are you going to help or not? Be a decent person and do something good, for once in your miserable life.”

“You know what the heat does to my hair. This better be worth it, me coming all the way down here. I’m about to get married, and to a better man than the two of you combined.” She looked Jude and Ludwig up and down, disapprovingly.

“You’re helping me and my people. Once we have him, you can go on trolloping your way around the world.” Anne moved to stand in front of Jude and Ludwig, not backing down. She’d become exceptionally protective of Ludwig, each adopting the other like a sibling. Ludwig snickered. “And you might want to wear something more reasonable than your stupid stockings. Do some research. Argentina is hot in January.”

“Fine, fine. Whatever you little peons need, I suppose it’s my duty as Queen to fulfill the whims of my people,” Marie said overdramatically, with a flick of her wrist towards the group, as if she were swatting away a fly.

“Ex-queen, lest you not forget, dearest,” Ludwig said, reminding her of her position.

“A former queen is always a queen, lest you forget, dearest Wiggy.” She sighed, rather exasperatedly, and rolled her eyes. “When is it that we are to leave?”

Jude had remained silent up until then. Marie always drained the life and his emotions right out of him, and he preferred not to interact with her until absolutely necessary. “In three hours. The others will meet us at the secondary location.”
