Mirror Person

SUBMITTED BY ERIC

When I was about eighteen years old, I stayed with this girl I knew, Amanda, for a few months. There were a bunch of our friends that would always come over and hang out during that time.

Amanda would always talk about this man who lived in her mirror. She described him as tall, and he wore like an old-style tall hat. She also would tell us about how she would always wake up with bruises.

One weekend, a group of our friends were over, and Amanda started telling all of us about this man in her mirror again. She then started showing us these bruises all over her body.

I should preface this part by saying that I usually stayed in the bedroom upstairs and Amanda’s bedroom was downstairs. So after she showed us all her bruises, I decided to go into her bedroom to look at this mirror. At first I was kind of skeptical, but I really liked this girl and didn’t want to think she was lying.

I went into her room and, after a minute or two, I saw it.

In the mirror, there was this dark, almost shadow-like figure of a man in a tall hat standing in the back of the bedroom. I spun around frantically, freaking out instinctively, thinking someone was in the room behind me, but I didn’t see anyone.

I looked back at the mirror and the figure was still there.

I looked behind me again. Nothing. No one. But there he was in the mirror.

I’m not sure what came over me next, but it was like something snapped inside me. All of a sudden I just started yelling at the figure inside the mirror, telling him that he wasn’t welcome in this house, and that from now on if he wanted to touch her again he was going to have to go through me.

Everyone heard me yelling and came running in from the other room. I started telling them all what had happened, but the figure was no longer there.

I told Amanda that I wasn’t going to let anything happen to her, and that I wanted to stay with her in her room that night. I slept on the floor between her bed and the mirror.

The next morning, I woke up extremely sore. I didn’t think much of it at first. I just figured it was probably from sleeping on the floor. As Amanda and I joined the others who had stayed the night out in the living room, we realized that I had bruises all over my body. As freaked-out as I was, I had a sense of calm about me, as Amanda felt fine and had no new bruises that morning.

As we were all talking out in the living room about what had transpired, we heard a loud crash. We all rushed into Amanda’s bedroom to find her mirror lying shattered in the middle of the floor where I had slept that night.

I still to this day don’t really have a logical explanation for anything that happened that night.
