I forced my feet to walk through the gates, shifting into my horse-like form so I could run away from that dangerous Fae. Skeletal black trees surrounded me, my eyes adjusting to the bright twilight. Cut through space and time, reseal what was torn asunder. Magic pressed in on me. For a blissful moment ringing in my ears deafened me, silencing the racing thoughts. My feet skidded on black earth, the char of fire and volcanic ash searing my nose. Derp scarlet, steaming bubbling lava filled my vision.

My stomach lurched into my mouth, every muscle screaming, each bone cracked and popping as my body rematerialized within the demon Court. I fell forward onto my hands and knees, wheezing and gasping for breath.

Fuck. I nearly materialized in the firelake. I almost died.

At least I stopped thinking about her. My heart sped up, the last sight of her burned into my memory. Sapphire eyes blazing up at me, unwilling to take no for an answer, belying the small, tentative whisper. "I'll see you again?"

"Yes, princess." I forced a smile I hope was reassuring.

Her eyes darkened, shoulders stiffening. I caught her hand, deflecting the silver sparks. "I'm not a princess," she growled.

"Thief then," I countered.

She lifted her hand, silver magic illuminating her face. "Try assassin."

"Even better." I leaned down, kissing her. Her small sharp claws hooked into my sleeves, drawing me flush against her. She kissed me back, the scent of lilies and lavender enveloping me, clinging to her hair and skin. I groaned and a soft moan escaped her. She all but climbed my torso, her leg twisting around mine. Her mouth opened and her tongue darted out, tracing my tongue, then dancing with mine. Remembering her first reaction, I cradled her hand. My hand tightened on her black mane as I fought for control. Was she a witch? There's no way a demoness was this alluring. No, she was a dangerous half-blood Fae and I need to get away. I have a mate. I pull back, seeing her closed eyelids flutter open, inky lashes framing desire-darkened eyes. My cock throbbed, demanding I bury myself inside her, needing release. Gaia, why couldn’t it be her? Damn it, Seren.

“You’re a fucking hypocrite, you know that right?” Seren asked behind me, trotting up on a black horse.

“You realize how furious I am with you, sister?” I spat the address like a curse, wheeling to glare at her. “For the love of all we call sacred, tell me you haven’t worked any blood or binding magic on that poor half-blood you choose?”

“I–no. I was going to work an attraction spell to lure her to you on the night of the full moon,” she stammered, yellow eyes widening. She faltered back a step. “Don’t worry it’s not potent like the draught the thralls gave Aurelia. It’ll just assure she finds your appearance easier to stomach. Now when you bring her here we might need a sedative. Our home can be a shock to many Fae.”

“No.” My voice was sharp.
