I slipped into the shower, sighing as the hot water assaulted my sore muscles. All the tension from the night and all the lovemaking on the forest floor had left me feeling a little battered. I winced as the hot water hit my torn flesh. My new claiming marks burned under the attention I gave them, but I didn’t want them to get infected. Scar? Yes. Get all green and full of puss? No, thank you!
I lathered my hair. Water streamed down my body in varying shades of crimson and brown. Blood and dirt. I grinned to myself, thinking back on our time in the woods. My mates were good lovers, that was for sure. They were also a little bit overprotective. Kade had all but demanded I come home with them, but I needed some time to myself to get cleaned up and process everything that had happened.
My life was changing so fast lately. I turned the shower knob and heard the knocking. “Who the fuck?” I muttered, glancing through the open bathroom door. I stepped out of the shower, wrapping myself in an oversized towel. I padded quietly to my bedroom, grabbing and cocking my gun as I walked slowly towards the front door.
I leaned up on my tiptoes, peering through the peephole to find one utterly unterrifying Denise waiting, with what appeared to be wine. I opened the door, disarming the gun as I did and smiled at her. Denise looked me over. I was very aware of the fact that my hair was soaking wet and I was definitely naked under the towel. She paused at the bite mark on my collarbone and sighed, pushing inside the house.
“You owe me lots of details. But first,” she waved the wine bottle wildly, gesturing to the kitchen, “Clothes? And I need to apologize before you slap me too. I know about them, of course. I’m a witch.”
My jaw dropped. The hand that had been securing my towel fell leaving me standing there naked, staring at another one of my best friends for the second time in a few hours like I knew nothing about them.
I arched an eyebrow, gesturing down to my uncovered body. I shot Denise a wicked grin. “Witch? You meant bitch, obviously. It’s okay to be confused in the presence of greatness.”
Denise groaned.
I giggled and stole the wine bottle, popping the twist-cap on my way to the bedroom to find clothes. It was cheap wine, but it would do. Apparently, we had a lot to talk about.
