ABOUT MEAL PLANS
A meal plan can be helpful and is sometimes necessary for making changes in your eating behavior. You might feel too overwhelmed trying to decide what to eat throughout the day and need the structure of a meal plan. You might be afraid to trust yourself to eat the right amount of food if it’s not specified or written down. If you are unsure if a meal plan is a good idea for you, there are several indicators listed in the next assignment that can help you decide.
ASSIGNMENT: INDICATIONS I NEED A MEAL PLAN
Read through the list of Indications and put an x next to the ones that apply to you.
Indications a meal plan is needed:
______ You are out of touch with nutrition information and serving sizes.
______ You have no idea of the amount of food you need.
______ You don’t feel or don’t trust your hunger and fullness signals.
______ You feel safer knowing ahead of time what you need to eat.
______ You need to gain weight, but are afraid of adding too much food.
______ You are too afraid to eat what you need or want.
______ Your anxiety or compulsivity makes it too hard to make decisions in the moment.
______ You are too entrenched in your current eating behaviors to try anything else.
______ You work well with structure (it aids your success and doesn’t cause rebellion).
______ You have tried to get better without a meal plan and it has not worked.
Even checking one item might indicate a need for a meal plan. If you checked off a few items, this is a strong indication that a meal plan is needed to help you get your food on track.
