Your Spirits Are Not Helping

Dear Ms. Sincere Jones,

I am such a loser. I cannot provide for my family. After twenty-five years of working at this company, they give me a nice package deal. The money will last for a couple of months, but how will I survive? I have always been the breadwinner. I am proud man. I cannot allow my wife to work. She loves taking care of the family. I am the man. She claims she doesn’t mind, but I do. I cannot talk to her. I cannot talk to anyone. Nobody understands my pain, but my bottle. My bottle of Vodka keeps me warm. When I drink, it takes my mind off of my worries. I have never cared too much for alcohol, but now it is my best friend. My wife nags me about my health. I cannot get fired from a job I don’t have. I don’t bother anyone. I just sat in my corner with my spirits. They keep me occupied. My wife has threatened to leave me. She cannot stand to see me wasting away. I need help because I cannot lose my family.

Dear Spirit Man,

I am sorry that you lost your job. Twenty-five years is a long-time to be on a job. The people at your job become your family. I applaud you for being the breadwinner of your family. You want to keep your family. Don’t lose your family over alcohol. It is not worth it. Alcohol makes you feel good for a moment. When you sober up, the problem is still there. I want you to get help. There are AA meetings in your area.

You should talk to your wife. She might attend the meetings with you. You could seek spiritual guidance or professional services to receive additional support. There are employment resources in your area that could assist you with securing job employment. This could be a great opportunity to try out new things. You have the experience on your side. I do not want you to wake up sober and you realize that you lost your family. I believe you will make the right choice.
