1. Stand a chicken next to the log to determine the height. I made this about chest high on a medium chicken.

2. Mark the center of the log end. Using the doorknob drill bit, cut the hole for the dish.

3. If you have a router, that will make the job easier. If not, continue to chisel out the center of the log end until you have space to set the bowl down in the log.

4. Fill a small dish with calcium supplement or grit. I used a small custard dish, readily available at many discount stores and flea markets.

5. Paint, if desired. I like spoiling my flock and making things fun. If you want to take it up a level, add some cute painted decorations.
