Picture this: I, the woman known for jumping into the splits at a momentâs notice, was lying in bed on oxygen, unable to move. After being diagnosed with pre-emphysema from toxic mold poisoning from spores between the walls of my home, I spent a full year recovering with alternative therapies. It seemed as though Iâd never get strong enough to teach again and regain my strength. But God had other plans for me! A few years after I was bedridden and unable to walk up a flight of stairs, I became an international Zumba fitness presenter and found my bliss in sharing my love for healthy living with others. Thank you, God.
When you lose your health and are fortunate enough to recover, you know you never want to feel that way again. You eat healthier, exercise more, and become a little more adventurous. My husband asked me to dance onstageâfully clothed, mind you!âat one of his concerts in front of twenty thousand people. I was about to turn fifty. (Why hadnât he asked me when I was thirty or even forty?) Had it not been for my previous life-threatening illness, I donât think I would have agreed to shake my thang onstage at a rock ânâ roll concert. Now I want to spend the rest of my life doing the things I may never get to do.
It often brings tears to my eyes that Iâve been given a second chance at life, and I know I donât want to waste it. My problem now is time; there never seems to be enough of it. I desperately want to take every opportunity to smell the roses, watch butterflies, talk with family and friends, and embrace life to the fullest.
