Any areas of flowers in a wood therefore become the central point of interest and it’s important that these are in focus, rather than the trees in the background. To this end you can also use some shallow depth-of-field shots, get down low and focus on those nearest the camera. These will be in focus and if using an aperture of f/2.8, the trees in the background will be out of focus. For more depth use f/16 or f/22, but ensure that the point of focus is near the front of the patch of flowers, rather than the scene in general.
