Make healthy behaviors a ritual part of your day, not just a habit.

These behaviors can be things like exercise, reading uplifting materials, or helping others. But honestly, a healthy behavior can be anything you can do every day that helps you. But here’s the dealio: it has to become so ingrained in your day that you don’t feel right without it. You need to make healthy behaviors a ritual.

Rituals are dynamic ways to change your life. Something powerful happens when you simply decide to allow space in every day for something, no matter what. A ritual means you commit to the time and you take action because you already decided you would, not because it’s a convenient time. You know you have a ritual in place when others expect you to take that same healthy action every day. For example, your spouse doesn’t make dinner plans at a certain time because he knows for sure that’s your hot yoga time.

Keep in mind, it takes time to develop this kind of muscle memory with a healthy behavior. But once you do, you find yourself thinking a little less about the merits of the activity itself, and it’s easier not to talk yourself out of it. You’re on “go” mode, so you go. This will carry you on the days when you’re not feeling it.
