Chapter Seven

“So, this is…unexpected.”

“You can say that again,” Trip grumbled. “What the hell is it?”

“It looks like water, but I’m not really sure,” Emma stated, with a hint of unease in her voice. “What is it doing here? I’ve never seen water this shade of blue before.”

“Damn it, Emma. Don’t touch it. What if this is one of Jade’s fucked up traps, and we get sucked in or something? Those fucking Dragon Warriors. They aren’t even here, yet they still come up with endless ways to torment us.”

“Admit it, you miss them,” Emma teased.

The muffled sound of his friends’ voices had Jais slowly rousing from the deepest, most peaceful slumber he’d ever had before. He felt like he’d been asleep for days, but his internal clock told him only a few hours had gone by. Since he felt so damn comfortable and warm, he simply ignored them and tried to go back to sleep. Feeling the slight weight move against him, he let out a deep sigh of pleasure.

Last night hadn’t been a dream.

He’d been worried about that, but the feel of her silky skin, and the sweet scent of his little star assured Jais that his mate was right there sprawled out on top of him. Not bothering to open his eyes, he smiled as he wrapped his arms around her tight. In response, she let out a little humming sound and snuggled closer to the warmth of his body.

It was pure bliss being with her.

He wanted nothing more than to stay there forever, basking in the afterglow of their night together. They’d made love a few more times before they had finally passed out from sheer exhaustion. Well, he’d been exhausted, and she had still been recovering from whatever had caused her injuries.

Throughout the night, he’d been worried about her head, but every time he’d mentioned it, she had distracted him with sweet kisses. Then, her gentle, insistent hands had touched and stroked him until he’d been quivering to obey her every command.

He should probably be worried about how easy it was for her to bend him to her will, but he was too damn happy to complain about it.

It was almost impossible to believe that he had found his mate. Hell, he couldn’t believe he actually had a mate. In a universe filled with uncertainties, she had literally fallen into his world like a shooting star. She was the female that fate had determined was the perfect match for him. But what he felt for her wasn’t forced or involuntary.

She was every wish he’d ever had brought to life.

Jais had wanted her the moment he had pulled her out of the water. Those feelings had only grown deeper when she’d opened her eyes and looked at him. After she’d kissed him, his heart had been lost to her. And when her light had filled him, he knew they were destined to be together forever. Now, waking up with her beside him, he felt like everything in his life was complete.
