PROFILE CARICATURES

There are many different approaches to caricaturing in profile; here are some methods you might like to experiment with.

SELECTIVE STRETCH

Abraham Lincoln has one of those faces that just cries out to be caricatured. In drawing this straight portrait, I had to hold myself back from accentuating his many interesting features.

On layout paper placed over the original drawing, I marked the levels of his features and traced the back of the head. Then I moved the paper to the right and traced the ear and hairline, thus shortening the back portion of the head. Moving the paper further to the left in increments, I then traced the facial features so that they increasingly extended forwards.
