BILL EVANS. Evans only had one good eye and his typing style was very unorthodox; using only two fingers, he would pound out news articles with great passion. Taken the first day of the Farmington Mine disaster, this photograph shows his handwritten notes to be very cryptic or unreadable to most, but he was able to decipher them and produce a very factual and accurate account of what took place at the scene of the event.

BILL EVANS’S MINER’S CAP. This miner’s cap, with the State Department of Mines sticker and Bill Evans’s name attached to the side, was given to him by top officials of that department because of his on scene reporting and the accuracy of his note taking. Bill Evans would oftentimes appear at mine accident hearings as an eyewitness because of his notes taken at the scene.
