Beltane

The natural world has come alive at this time of year, the May (hawthorn) blossom is out, birds are mating and the earth is warm to the touch. It’s Beltane, another Celtic fire festival!

Extract from Zen Druidry: Living a Natural Life with Full Awareness by Joanna van der Hoeven:

At Beltane, or May Day, on the 1st May all life rejoices infertility. The hawthorn, or May bush, is usually in bloom at this time of year, and in nature we see the beautiful mating game, the dance and the courtship that will hopefully produce something wonderful later in the year. The sap is rising in the trees and in our own blood, and we feel rejuvenated, alive in the beauteous glory that the coming summer will bring. It is a time of expression, a reminder of the cycle in that every inhale must have an exhale, and so we release into the tides of summer, riding the waves of energy that pulsate through the land. At this time of year we are all young, no matter what our years and it is important to have the Right View. Living in the moment we see that life is impermanent, though we may feel immortal at this time of year. With the knowledge of the impermanence of life, of its continual change, we come to an understanding that everyone suffers, and we begin to attain the wisdom to see the nature of all things.
