HOW PARENTS JUDGED YOU
Your first teacher
Parents are said to be child’s first teachers. Whatever things a child experiences in his early years stays forever. The emotional being of a child is greatly affected by the surroundings. It’s imperative that growth should occur on all levels - physical, mental, social, and emotional levels. Because a child doesn’t have an independent thinking of his own, the child absorbs everything in the environment and believes it to be true. Knowingly or unknowingly, parents teach so many things to a child. According to the parent’s experiences they teach their children. The parents, the atmosphere, and the circumstances, play a big role in molding a child. Like the dry clay, the child absorbs everything. If a wrong impression is imbibed on his innocent mind, it is almost difficult to change it at a later stage.
The impact
Whether right or wrong, the early impression remains with the child forever. The neighborhood, the school, and the outer world, impact a child’s growth tremendously. You cannot be present everywhere to monitor how the outer world is affecting your child. The child may behave normally at home but may behave poorly outside. On the contrary, the child may behave poorly at home and may behave nicely outside. We can control our child’s behavior in a tightly closed environment, but we cannot control his behavior in the outside environment. When certain things are beyond our control, it’s imperative that we teach a child some indispensable lessons of life. It is the reason why it’s so important that a child grows in the right environment with the right kind of people. It’s because at the later stage it becomes almost difficult to change the impressions that may have been imbibed on the child’s consciousness.
Parents project themselves through their children. Their thinking, feelings, beliefs, attitudes, and judgments are all projected through their children. Parents who themselves rarely tell lie, their children also seem to speak the truth. The parents, who have respect for the women, have their children respecting women in their later lives. A parent, who is involved in domestic violence, hurls abuses, and quarrels, will have his children doing the same. For the same reason, it is said that the parents should never fight with each other in front of their children, because it causes a negative impact on the child’s mind. The innocent mind absorbs everything like a dry sponge, be it wrong or right. Whatever the child learns through the parents is often hard wired in the child’s mind. At the later stage, it’s very difficult to change the negative teachings and its negative effects.
The parents’ role
Parents play a crucial role in deciding the school; the child has to go. Sometimes, parents decide the hours of tuitions for the child? The college is decided by the parents, in some cases. The career is also decided by the parents, in some cases. Whether the child really likes the subject, matters little. It has been my general observation that in some homes, too much emphasis is given to become a good child.
