One, two, or three? Or what?

Then when Jesus came, things suddenly became complicated. His fellow Jews could well understand that Jesus would address the Lord in heaven as FATHER. This was clearly monotheistic. But then Jesus did things that only God can do—such as forgive sins and be the final authority for understanding the Law of Moses. What? Are there supposed to be two gods, now, after all? The FATHER and the SON? For many of the Jews, this was not merely a sliding back into primitive religion; it was so intolerable to them that they even wanted Jesus to be nailed to the Cross for it.

But things were about to get even more extreme. When Jesus said farewell to his disciples, he promised them “another Counselor”, the HOLY SPIRIT. At Pentecost, the disciples understood what Jesus had meant by that, when the HOLY SPIRIT was poured out upon them.
