The plank rules

Maintain a line along the back of your body from your head to your heels. It is better to drop your knees down and draw your abdomen in to hold onto this alignment, than to sag in your lower back or lift your hips. See modified high plank (here).

Engage your leg muscles and push your heels away so your lower limbs share the strain.

Look down, not ahead, but don’t let your head drop. It should continue the line of the spine.

Wrist weakness, injury or carpal tunnel syndrome? Opt for a ‘forearm’ plank or modified forearm plank (above).

Any lower back discomfort lie on your back and hug the legs in to the abdomen.
