Step-through bow stringing. Be certain to keep the handle section on the hip.

The bow is now ready to string. Place the loop over one bow limb 3 inches from the tip. Retie the timber hitch on the other limb to take the slack out of the string. Step through the bow as shown, bend the bow, and slide the loop into the nocks in the upper tip. If the bow is too stiff to string, remove more wood as before until it can be strung.

The Dacron string may stretch and relax, which is normal, even to the point the bow is straight again. If so, shorten the string two inches. When the bow is strung, the string should stand away from the handle a couple of inches.

It will now become much more apparent how the limbs are bending. If one limb looks obviously stronger than the other, mark it and concentrate wood removal on that limb. Wood can be removed with the rasp while the bow is strung, but care must be taken not to damage the bowstring.
