WHAT YOU NEED

(The following items are all available from a home center, paint store or woodworking store or catalog/website.)

• A pint or quart of gel stain.

• A pint or quart of oil-based polyurethane.

• A wide-mouth container.

• A pint or quart of mineral spirits.

• Protective gloves.

• A paintbrush. Best is a good quality that doesn’t shed bristles. You could also use a foam brush or an inexpensive “chip” brush.

• Stirring sticks.

• A paint strainer.

• Sheets of #320- or #400-grit sandpaper.

• Lint-free rags such as old, clean T-shirts, cheese cloth or heavy duty paper towels.

• A tack rag (optional).

• A small brown paper bag.
