Chapter Thirteen
Wade paced the floor. It had been a trying day and his brain felt like it was on fire. Sounds were too loud. His living room felt oppressive. Guilt had finally driven him to return Princessâs collar to Hank. He had spared Hank the details but admitted Princess was gone. He swore to himself he would find a way to make things right with everyone in town who had been affected by his illness, even though no one but Caspian knew. Everything just felt heavier than normal today.
Charlie trotted into the room. He transformed from wolf to man. His collar caught the sunlight and glimmered. Pride rose in Wadeâs chest. There was a time when everything about them would have felt wrong to Wade. Those days were long gone. Charlie was the greatest love of Wadeâs life. He wouldnât survive without him. According to Caspian, their kind lived very long lives. Long enough people would eventually become suspicious. It made him a little sad to think he would eventually have to move away from this town. But Charlie would always be at his side, and that was all that mattered.
Wade forced himself to move to the couch and sit. Pacing wasnât helping the growing tension inside him.
âThereâs a full moon tonight.â
Wade nodded at Charlieâs words. He knew that, and he had been a bit of a mess over it all day. That, on top of his visit with Hank, had him ready to crawl from his skin. It was the first full moon since Caspian stopped taking his memories. He was nervous as hell. Wade didnât want to hurt anyone or anything. But he could feel the night coming and his skin itched a little more with each passing second.
Charlie moved to the couch and straddled Wadeâs lap. âDonât worry. I wonât let you do anything bad.â
âI donât want to hurt any more animals. Thatâs not me.â
Charlie nodded. âI know, and Iâve been thinking about that. Instead of steering you toward hunting animals to keep the townsfolk safe, I had a different idea for tonight.â
Wadeâs eyebrows rose. He couldnât hide his skepticism. âYouâre not planning to set me loose in the meat section of Piggly Wiggly, are you?â
The way Charlie laughed eased the tightness in Wadeâs chest. It also didnât hurt that Charlie was nude in his lap. That made a lot of things easier to endure. âNo.â He held up a pair of handcuffs Charlie hadnât seen him holding. âI thought maybe Iâd chain you to the bed instead.â
A feral part of Wade howled to life at the idea of being chained. The human part of him was all in. âHow will you keep me entertained? Iâd hate to tear our bed to pieces, trying to get free.â
Charlieâs eyelids lowered. His expression turned seductive. âI have my ways.â
Wade wrapped his arms around Charlie and shot to his feet. He headed to the bedroom without a second thought. âWeâd better get started then. I can feel the sun setting.â
A sexy smile played on Charlieâs lips, giving Wade more confidence than anything ever had.
