“What do you mean you don’t know where they are? Winn should be back in Yuma by now and Clay should be at the ranch south of Telluride. What the hell happened?”

“When I said I’d be back to drive Winn to the airport, she declined the offer. Actually, they declined the offer. It wasn’t the right time to explain who I was, and I’m sure Clay wanted to take her. I saw no problem with that.”

“How do you know Winn is not in Yuma?”

“I assumed she was, but when I discovered Clay hadn’t arrived at the ranch, I decided to investigate both of their whereabouts. An old friend of mine was able to take a look at the passenger lists. Winn wasn’t on the plane to Yuma and Clay wasn’t on the plane to Montrose.”

“How could you have let this happen? Damn it, Martin. Find her. I’m okay with the fact that Clay hasn’t arrived yet. His official fantasy doesn’t begin until tomorrow and he can take care himself. Track her down first.”

Martin knew that mistakes had been made, but several strange and unplanned events had occurred, complicating his job this time. The Fantasy Maker was also partly to blame. This problem wouldn’t exist if they’d stuck with the original plan to keep all the fantasies closer to one of the coastlines. That made it possible for The Fantasy Maker to assist in monitoring the fantasy recipient’s activities. That was the plan he’d agreed to. Covertly overseeing two fantasies at once with the brains of the company many miles, leagues away, was not.

“What’s your next move, Martin?”

“I’ll get back to you on that.”
