Skyla

It’s amazing the amount of luggage you need when you have a baby in tow. Only two of the bags being carried to the plan belong to Bryce and me. The rest are for Hope. For a tiny little baby girl, she certainly needs a lot to get by.

Not that I’m complaining, Hope has been exactly what her namesake is, she’s given us a reason to keep going and keep fighting. And she’s been a wonderful distraction too. I never thought I’d spend as many hours as I do being entertained by staring at a tiny human. There’s something magic about babies that draws your gaze and softens your heart. If there wasn’t the fear of Malcolm finding us, I think I’d happily walk away from everything that trust holds. Just being with Bryce and Hope is enough for me. But that’s not what my parents wanted, and I have to honor them by getting the team and our estate back into the family. They’re rightfully mine, which means they’re also rightfully Hope’s. It’s a legacy that should be handed through the generations, not stolen away by some selfish prick who wooed my mother then took over. There can’t be a reward in that.

“Alto.” Bryce smiles but frowns as the one and only Tristan Alto, lead singer of Crash, Rewind saunters across the tarmac, a tall and curvy girl with light brown ombre curls trailing along behind. I’d think she was his assistant, but she looks younger than me, so she’d be barely out of high school. “What are you doing here?” My sentiments exactly.

“Mate.” Tristan holds out his hands and grins a perfectly straight smile, clapping hands with Bryce before pulling him into a hug. “Couldn’t let my good friend get married without saying hello and offering a wedding gift,” he says, his British accent making me want to giggle like I’m thirteen and still obsessing over the poster of him I once had in my room. He’s a lot older now, but he’s still good looking with jet black hair, a muscular build and tan skin that’s covered with tattoos from his knuckles to his neck. I have to admit I’m a little star struck. “Plus, I’m your cover. I’ll fly to this island with you, crash for a few days, then head home. Keeps away suspicion.”

“Makes sense,” Bryce says, his hand sliding around my waist before he makes introductions. “This is my wife, Skyla.”

Tristan takes my hand and bows with a flourish. “Lovely to meet you, milady,” he says, before standing up and gesturing for the girl he’s with to step forward. “And this here is Bethany, er…what’s your surname, sweetheart?”

“Tanner,” she says, offering a dimpled smile.

Tristan clicks. “That’s it. Tanner. Bethany is your gift. She’s a trained nanny, comes highly recommended and has references to boot. She’s gonna look after your little tyke so you two can have a proper honeymoon.”

My mouth falls open. “You…you got us a nanny?” I ask, finally finding my words. I am not comfortable with this at all.
