Appropriate Levels of Responsibility

By sharing fiscal responsibility with employees, companies deliver a message that employment is a business arrangement. It is an exchange of pay, in many forms, for work. In the list above, we describe responsibilities that share some consequence but not a complete transfer of all risk. Employees will bear some of the cost, not all. Employees will experience some reduction in pay during extended absence, not lose all income. By sharing both positive and negative consequences, employees become conscientious stewards of the resources they are given.
