CHAPTER 5

WHY CALL JESUS THE SON OF GOD?

Jesus is known in the Injeel as Mary’s son. I asked myself this question: Why is Jesus called the Son of Mary? Usually a person is known by their father’s name.

In Jesus’ case, the reason could be either because his father’s name is not known or because he does not have an earthly father.

In the Injeel, Jesus did not have an earthly father. His mother Mary married a man named Joseph, but that did not make him Jesus’ father; He is never called “Son of Joseph” in the Injeel. Because He had no earthly father, Mary is named as His mother.

Jesus’ mother Mary was a virgin, and Jesus’ birth was a virgin birth. A miracle from God! Muslim Imams falsely accuse Christians and the Bible because Jesus is called the Son of God. Muslim Imams claim that Christians teach that God incarnated in Gabriel and had sexual relations with Mary, and their offspring is called the Son of God. However, this is blasphemy in Christianity!

The Injeel does call Jesus the Son of God, but says that He was born of a virgin – nowhere in the Bible does it say that Jesus was born of a physical union.

The Injeel calls Jesus the Son of God, to give glory to God. Jesus’ birth was a miracle of God, and He is named the Son of God, to proclaim his uniqueness and give glory to God.

Jesus was also called Immanuel, which is a Hebrew word meaning God is with us. Jesus’ virgin birth was the result of a miracle of God. Christians call Jesus the Son of God, acknowledging God’s role in His miraculous birth.

In the Injeel Jesus is acknowledged as a prophet. His disciples and many other people called Him that.

However Jesus was more than a prophet. Jesus in the Injeel is the Word of God. I asked myself: What does it mean that Jesus is the Word of God? Is there a difference between God and His Word?

Jesus is the Word of God, and he judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart. His role is more than that of any other prophet or teacher; he does things that only God is qualified to do, even the judgment of human hearts! What qualifies him? The only answer is that Jesus is more than just a normal man. In fact, Jesus was the Word of God, and the incarnation of God on Earth.

The Injeel teaches that Jesus is the incarnation of God, that is, God given physical form. We already know that it calls Him the Word of God. If Jesus is God’s Word given physical form, that means He is both God and man; not partly God and partly man, but fully God and fully man. He was something never seen before in the world.

The miracle of incarnation cannot be explained, but all things are possible with God! Even though the concept of incarnation is beyond our rational understanding , that does not mean it is against it.
