Chapter 7
Amy
I can’t believe this is happening! Why did I let Sierra talk me into coming up here for the weekend with Karen acting like a bitch?
She spent the entire night blowing up my phone to tell me that she drove past my mom’s house and saw some lights on—her lights are never on, considering that nobody lives there. Scared to go over there in case the place was getting robbed, she went and grabbed a mutual friend of ours to go back and check everything out.
Yeah, it was getting robbed all right—by my sister! How she knew I’d be out of town this weekend—if she knew—is beyond me, but the timing is too perfect. She went over there and cleaned everything out. Sierra watched her load a basket filled with stuff into her very packed car and drive off. After Karen left, Sierra took the key that I’d left her and went inside to find the place completely empty.
She took every collectible, every piece of China, every family heirloom, all of the electronics, and even the picture frames off the walls! Sierra offered to call the cops and file a police report but I told her not to because it might cause more problems and chaos between us. Plus, with mom not having a will, they might say she’s just as entitled to the stuff as I am and do nothing about it. I have to be smart about this.
As soon as I read her text messages when I got back to my room last night, I screamed, “FUCK,” so loud that I probably woke up the entire floor. I couldn’t sleep at all and when I got online to see about booking the next available flight out of here, I learned that the airport was shut down because of the snow. It’s a complete white out! It looks like the earliest I’ll be able to fly out is my original time—Sunday night—and that’s if the airport is open then.
I was still furious this morning so I called Sierra and told her about the flight cancellations and asked her what I should do. After much debating and a little arguing, she made me promise to try to enjoy my weekend. She said that I should still go to all the scheduled activities and events because whether I come home or not, everything will still be gone. I hate to admit it, but she’s right. Going home right now would change nothing but I don’t want to be surrounded by people either.
As I stand in line for the photo shoot, all I can think about is my fucking sister and how I seriously don’t want to be here right now. All of these dumb girls ogling over Brett and gushing with laughter makes me want to snap their heads off, but I promised Sierra that I’d do this and I don’t renege on promises.
“Hello, gorgeous!” I hear in my ear, a bit too chipper and I’m instantly annoyed. I roll my eyes and turn around to find Greg standing behind me.
