"I WILL NOT BE ABLE to return as early as I had expected. There has been rioting throughout the country and we must cover these events." Josiah sighed as he glanced at the calendar. "Shaul will be helping David move Arlana's things to the farm before he returns to Israel. I am hoping I will not miss his visit, but with these revolts, it might not be possible."
"Is there no one else who can take your place?" Rivkah paced in front of the window, although she already knew the answer.
"It will be nice for you to have Arlana when I am away. I believe you will be good for each other and I will worry less knowing you are not alone." Josiah's voice grew tender a moment later, "I can think of no one better to help Arlana adjust to my absences once we are married. Yes, I think this is a blessing for you, Mother.
Have you spoken with Rose? I have been contacting Arlana every day, but I do not think I will be able to for the next few days. Things are getting intense over here. I worry she will lose faith in me or think I have abandoned her..."
Rivkah smiled, listening to her son's heart.
"This is where trust comes in. She needs to trust in your care for her when you are absent and you need to trust in her faithfulness to you." Rivkah chuckled, "This is the first test, Josiah, and if it is meant to be, I am sure you will both pass it and appreciate each other the more."
"You are right, Mother, but it is easier for me and yet... I guess what I am trying to say is, if it is so difficult for me, how much harder for Arlana when she has no idea I care for her and hope to make her my wife? I fear this sudden abandonment may hurt her as I cannot assure her it is well or tell her my intentions for us.
What if she becomes bitter towards me? Or refuses to respond to my messages after this? And then there is Lachlan. I have not said anything although I know he messages her frequently. She doesn't know my part in The Resistance, and for now, that is how I wish it to remain, but I can see how close she and Lachlan are becoming over their shared passion for my ministry. My hands are tied, Mother..."
Rivkah paused, contemplating her words. "Josiah, you have always trusted Lachlan and have never had reason to believe he would ever betray you. He knows you are betrothed to Arlana, so it is a harmless friendship. I wouldn't worry about it. Arlana needs support right now and friendship. Besides, Lachlan can be there for her when you cannot and as he is the face of The Resistance, it is natural for Arlana to trust him.
Lachlan represents you and I can only see this connection they have as something that is in your favour.
