Look for guides

There are so many teachers out there. People who have lived through their own struggles and have abundant wisdom to share. Listen to their podcasts, read their books, try their meditations, join their mailing lists, and let them light a path through the dark.

Some of the guides that have helped me in my darkest moments include Pema Chödrön, Tara Brach, Brené Brown, and Russ Harris. Look for the guide that best suits your journey.

Be vulnerable

Ignore anyone who tells you that emotional resilience means you have to ‘tough it out’ or ‘suck it up’. If you’re struggling, be brave enough to be honest about it. You’d be surprised how warmly people respond when you show the soft underbelly we too often keep hidden.

Everyone knows what it’s like to feel pain. Vulnerability is not a weakness, it’s a strength. It’s what connects us as humans.
