Both partners should wash their hands before sex to reduce the spread of bacterial infection.

THE FACTS ON FREQUENT UTIS

Getting one or two UTIs every year is normal for some people, especially biologically female people. However, if you get more than two UTIs a year, your doctor may consider your UTIs to be recurrent or frequent, which means they will want to figure out why it’s happening and how to best treat you. First, your doctor may determine exactly which antibiotic to prescribe. One way to do this is to culture your urine. Usually to diagnose a UTI, a doctor or nurse will dip a stick into your urine to detect nitrates or white blood cells, which signal a UTI. A culture is done by putting some of your urine into a dish with a substance that encourages any bacteria to grow. Then the bacteria can be identified and a specific antibiotic prescribed. You might be asked to take the antibiotic for longer than a week.
