A large semi is parked in front of the motel. A circus logo is on the side, but someone spray-painted the words ‘Circus Zombie’ all over it.

"This reminds me of the time when Frankie the Furious threw that birthday party for his son. Remember when he hired those sideshow people?" Gina asks.

I nod, still not wanting to comprehend what I'm seeing.

Gina continues, "And that freaky clown kept whipping out his cazzo, flashing all the women? I saw it, and I have to admit, I laughed pretty hard. I never knew a grown man could be that small when he was erect. How come the well-endowed guys never show it off? Or the good-looking guys? Was Joey Sr. well-equipped? Vinny Sr. was nothing to brag about. He did have a brown mole on the tip. The first time I saw it, I was like 'Ugh! What is on the end of your pecker?' I can't believe he cheated on me. The rat bastard. I hope he got zombie-fied.”

I’ve heard this a million times before. Each time gets more descriptive. I turn to her, "Shhh. Do we really need to be discussing your ex's junk right now?"

"I can't help it. I babble when I get excited."

"I need you to pay attention. Look for the best places to plant your explosives," I say.

She snaps to attention, visions of things-that-go-boom dancing in her head.

I see a gabbie nailed to a vertical round disc with the sign reading ‘Wheel of Death’ above it. Apparently, they were practicing their knife-throwing skills while spinning the wheel, and they weren't very accurate. The creature is riddled with knives but still moving. I guess swallowing swords is another attraction because they have a zombie tied to a post with several sword handles sticking out from its mouth.

On the other side of the parking lot is a large wooden box with several holes in the top surface. The box is about twelve-foot by twelve-foot and five-feet tall. Before long, a man with a red beard and flannel shirt jumps on top, carrying a large sledgehammer. The head of the hammer appears to be made out of rubber. "What do you think he's doing?" I ask Gina.

"I don't know, but I can't wait to find out," she replies and rubs her hands together with excitement.

A bell sounds, and a different guy pulls a long, green lever. A sliding noise comes from the box. The guy raises the hammer. Gabbie faces pop up from the holes and then go back down. Lumberjack guy slams the hammer down, trying to hit their heads.

"Look, Whack-A-Zombie," Gina says with a little too much enthusiasm.

Lumberjack guy continues bopping the gabbies.

I count five men, including the lumberjack guy, each armed with several weapons apiece. They're drinking whiskey and wearing filthy clothes. I don’t doubt they all have lice. One chucks a liquor bottle at a bonfire in the middle of the parking lot. As the bottle shatters against the ground, the alcohol causes the fire to blaze higher.
