Virginia Slims is an American cigarette brand that gained notoriety in the late sixties for marketing directly to young women by portraying those who smoked their cigarettes as strong, independent, and sophisticated. “You’ve come a long way, baby” was their tag line. Sadly, it worked. By 1970, over 50% of new female smokers smoked Virginia Slims.
