Sean had calmed down a bit by the time he went downstairs for breakfast. He found his uncle and father in the kitchen, his brother and cousins in the backyard.

“Sounds great.” Sean could hardly keep the smile off his face as he finished off a cup of coffee and chopped fresh fruit.

His brother trooped in with Jimmy and Paul.

“We’re going to go swimming at the beach. When Spyros gets here, come join us,” Paul said.

Sean nodded, but he had no intention of sharing Spyros with anyone. He wanted some one-on-one time with the guy. He wanted to spend the day with him.

Ren cornered him.

“Jimmy and Paul don’t want to go to the wedding; neither do I, frankly. Geez, Louise. I’m still going through a divorce. It’s the last damned thing I want to do. So, if you want some time with Spyros… at least meet us for lunch, okay?”

Sean could live with that. “Okay.”

“Stay in touch. Keep your phone turned on.”

“Montgomery sent me a text last night,” Sean blurted.

“Oh, fuck. What did he say?”

“Take a guess.”

“Oh, no.”

Sean showed him and Ren swore under his breath.

“You sure it’s him?”

“I can’t be sure of anything, but it’s strange that it’s starting up again.”

“We have to call Ezra.”

“I already did. Ren, I’m worried. They can’t find Montgomery.

He was supposed to get his ankle monitor removed today and he’s vanished. Ezra says that he thinks Justin knows we didn’t make it back to Gilroy.”

Ren stared at him a moment. Sean hadn’t meant to upset his 45

brother, but he had to tell him.

“You don’t think we’re risking… you know… our family’s lives, do you?” Sean asked.

“Hell, no. He has no idea we’re here. That fucker. I hope they find him and arrest him.”

“Me, too.”

“Ya sou.”

The two brothers twitched at the deep, melodious greeting.

Spyros lounged against the doorframe. How much had he heard?

Sean couldn’t help smiling at the colloquial greeting and rushed forward to shake the man’s hand. He just longed to touch him.

“This is Greece. Men hug here. Gay and straight.” Spyros pulled Sean into his arms, holding him, then kissing both his cheeks, European style. He hugged and kissed Ren, too.

“Are we ready?” Spyros asked.

“I’m ready,” Sean said. “Listen… my cousins are skipping a wedding to take care of us today. Any chance we can meet them and Ren for lunch?”

Spyros gave his shoulder a reassuring squeeze.

“Of course. Let me talk to Jimmy and Paul.”

They all walked outside. Thio Giorgios and Chuy were back at the backgammon board. Thio Giorgios jumped.
