The Intimate Table

Forget the Table

One of the best ways to spark an intimate occa-sion is to leave the table behind altogether. Some of my favorite memories are moments when we’ve forsaken the usual dining etiquette. Sometimes this happens by necessity and sometimes by choice. In our first home together, my husband and I ate every meal on the floor, on the bed, or off our laps on the porch cot simply because there wasn’t enough space for a table. While this was inconvenient at times, I wouldn’t trade these experiences for anything. Meals shared in unexciting places can still seem very special, even when they’re far from fancy. A plain baguette, a wedge of cheese, a handful of fruit, a bar of chocolate, and a bottle of something sparkling make any occasion feel like a feast, no elegant china or flatware needed.
