So What is Putin’s Foreign Policy Trending Toward?

Vladimir Putin has one more year in office and is undecided as to whether or not he will run for a fourth term. Before he steps down, however, he has a few more items on his agenda regarding military, foreign, and domestic policy.

In 2002, under Putin's administration, the Russia-NATO Council was established. Its primary purpose is to deal with security issues including terrorism, fighting local drug production, non-proliferation of nuclear weapons, and military cooperation between nations. But NATO has since suspended their cooperation with Vladimir Putin and the Russian Federation in response to Russia's unauthorized invasion of Ukraine and the ensuing crisis. When NATO later requested the use of Russian airspace for the purpose of flying military cargo into Afghanistan, the request was denied.
