Sarah and I spent the evening gossiping about Seb while she tried to get the dirt on what was happening between Drake and me. A trashy chick flick played in the background, filling the silence which happened every time I asked her about the people, we brought here from Coldhaven. She didn’t realize that her silence spoke volumes, and I now knew that not everyone had made it back here alive. I had more people to add to the growing list of deaths I was responsible for. Although I hadn’t killed them myself, they had lost their lives because of me. I asked them to join the fight. Therefore, their blood was on my hands. After what felt like an eternity, Sarah finally talked herself to sleep. I pulled the blankets over her and let my somber mood carry me back to my room.

I lay in bed, my mind racing through the faces of the people who came to Coldhaven with us. I cried until there was nothing left inside me; I felt hollow. As the sun started to rise, I finally closed my eyes, desperate to escape the nightmare that was my life. What felt like five minutes later, my door knocked loudly, and I groaned internally. I wasn’t really up to spending the day with Seb, but a promise is a promise. I climbed out of bed and opened the door to see Seb bouncing up and down like an excited puppy. It was obvious that he was eager to spend some time with me.

Seb sat on my bed while I got ready in the bathroom. I turned the shower on to the hottest setting and let the water wash away the tears and guilt from last night. We decided to go for a walk around the grounds; I was going stir crazy stuck in this room, and Seb looked like he could do with burning off some of his pent-up energy. It didn’t take long for the comfortable silence between us to be filled with conversation as we reminisced about life before everything went crazy. I was grateful that I had Seb here with me; he brought the real me back to the surface. We laughed and jerked around as Drakes men patrolled the perimeter. I was acutely aware of them watching us; I wasn’t sure if it was to make sure I didn’t make another run for it or if they were watching us, so they report back to Drake about my date with Seb. I hated feeling like a prisoner, and I wondered why they were out here. I thought we had eliminated the threat; I made a mental note to ask Drake about it later.

“So, you are one of them now, huh?” Seb asked, nodding towards the guards.

I looked away, partly ashamed of what I am, but mainly because I wasn’t ready to answer that yet. I wasn’t sure how I felt about being a vampire, and if I told Seb he would be hurt.
