Tiger only looked away for a second to get a cloth, but when she turned back she couldn’t see the ducklings anywhere, only Holly licking her whiskers.

“Holly, NO!” said Tiger, panicking, but then she looked again and saw the ducklings had gathered around her own feet. Holly was taking no notice of them at all. Tiger sighed with relief.

The ducklings clambered in and out of the water tray, and back to Tiger’s side, shaking their wet, downy feathers while Holly looked on. Tiger picked up a duckling. It was light and warm, and its soft feet padded on her palm. She scooped them all up, put them in her lap and wrapped her arms around them lovingly.

Soon the ducklings were following Tiger everywhere, and Holly followed them too, all in a line. Around the kitchen, to the conservatory and then to the outside bathroom when Tiger needed to use the loo. The ducklings cheeped outside before wriggling through the gap underneath the door to be with her. They pecked at the loose end of the toilet paper and Tiger grabbed it quickly before they unravelled it all.
