Chapter twenty-four

Hunt for Healer

After the hue reps had exited the auditorium and filed down the hallway, flanked by gray guards on both sides, we slipped out into the hallway. We hurried up the service stairway, and out through the back entrance to the patio.

The guards had moved to the side entrance, leaving the path to our carts clear.

As we walked, I became more and more angry. Was this what was causing the division back on earth? Was this crazy place actually controlling the fate of different groups in our own world? And was that map an outline for a plan to take control of everything, everywhere? Was all this insanity actually based on the color of our skin? My brain felt clogged.

We hopped into our carts.

My heart began pounding faster, thinking about all this insanity. Yeah, I wanted to blow up that gray limo.

“Where to?” asked Chief, interrupting my thoughts. “Are we going to follow the gray rep?”

“I don’t know,” I said. “I’d like to follow him and find Divider, or It, as it calls itself. It’s time to divide Divider.”

“That might not be a good idea,” said Brook.

“Remember,” said Mari, “the wizard told us that we should look for Healer. Healer might be able to help us conquer Divider, or at least give us some clues for how we can succeed.”

I took a deep breath and let out a big sigh. “Yeah, we need to talk to Omni.”

“That would be a great idea,” said Omni. “Brook and Mari, you are correct. Attacking now, without any help or clues, would be suicidal. I believe that Healer will provide you with some valuable information and the key to winning this battle.”

“Where do we find Healer?” I asked.

“I can’t tell you that,” said Omni. “You must search for him. In the process you will learn additional important things about this Sub Q world.”

“Can you give us some clues?” asked Chief. “Share some of that knowledge.”

“Ah, Chief,” said Omni, “you are always looking for a short cut. Sometimes you must proceed through the process in the old-fashioned systematic way. But, since you ask, I will give you one clue.”

“Great,” said Chief. “What is it?”

“You shall find him where you least expect to find him,” said Omni.

“That’s pretty vague,” said Mari. “Can you give us something more specific?”

“Only that it will be a long and grueling journey,” said Omni, “but if you do not give up, you will find him.”

“Can you tell us where Kanter is?” I asked.

“Kanter will show up before you return to your world,” said Omni. “You will be pleased.”

“Is he going to help us?” asked Mari.

Omni chuckled. “Enough. It is time for you to set off on your mission.”

And our radios went quiet.

“Which way?” asked Chief.

“Let’s fly over the center of this city,” I said. “We might be able to see where the gray limo is going and get a clue to where Divider’s headquarters is.”

“You’re not going to try anything, are you?” asked Brook. “Omni said to look for Healer.
