CHAPTER SEVEN

– WINDSOR –

As soon as we leave the room, we both notice the tension in the air when Scout comes rushing down the hall.

“Spence needs you two in your office. Shit went down last night. Gotta go.” He doesn’t wait for us to reply but runs toward another room to pound on Shawn’s door.

Linnette shoots me a concerned look and we both stride down the hall to head for my office. The door is open and people are walking in and out.

“What’s going on?” Linnette questions once we’re near the desk Spence is leaning over while he’s instructing an older looking biker.

“In a minute,” Spence grumbles and picks up the piece of paper. “Get everyone ready and I’ll be right there, Ramrod.”

Ramrod nods and turns to leave but becomes aware of Linnette standing beside Spence.

“Linnie, good to see you.” He gives her a one arm hug.

He’s one of the bikers who is a part of the Broken Deeds chapter Archer is the president of. I know they sent other bikers to replace those who left and I haven’t had the time to meet all of them yet. Though, I do remember Ramrod from when I met him a few weeks ago when Linnette and I were at Archer’s clubhouse.

Ramrod smacks my shoulder. “Windsor. Good to see you again. Gotta run, though. Talk later.”

I can only give the man a nod as he rushes out the door. When I stepped into the palace the people around me had been calling me “Your Highness,” and bowing their heads and nodding while these guys know who I am and yet they treat me as an equal. As family. And I have to admit, it feels damn good to have this kind of normality. Especially now.

“You might want to sit down for what I have to say because it’s good and bad. Hell, I don’t even know if it’s good or bad. To be honest? It’s quite fucked-up and until we get to the bottom of it–”

Linnette holds up her hand to cut Spence off. “You might want to rewind and pick some other words because you’re not making any sense. The rattling might be clear in your head but until you explain why everyone is rushing in and out, we’re on the sidelines wondering why you guys are acting strange.”

“There’s been a massacre.” Spence rubs the back of his neck and lets his eyes hit mine. “Earlier this morning the police received a call about bodies found in your uncle Alan’s mansion. Over an hour later a second call came in which alerted the police to check on the Diaz residence. All of them have been wiped out. Not just Nina Diaz’s parents have been murdered, also her grandparents. The bodies in your uncle’s mansion have been identified as your uncle Alan along with his wife Claire. Do you now understand the whole good and bad angle?”

Stumbling back, I have to let myself drop into one of the nearby chairs.

I shake my head and mutter, “This can’t be real.
