Secrets and Spies

After two hours of flying around aimlessly, finding Theo was proving more difficult than expected. They had decided to stick together, as only one of them could carry the ring. However, the search was proving unsuccessful, and they were quickly tiring.

‘Guys, I can fly pretty swiftly’, Lexi suggested. ‘Give me half an hour of flitting around. If I don’t find him, we’ll swap over and someone else can head out with the ring. That way we conserve energy?’. Everyone nodded in agreement, settling on one of the last mushroom platforms to rest, as Lexi headed out by herself.

She’d almost given up hope and was heading back, when she spotted a bare foot dangling from a branch, high up within a nearby tree. Lexi rocketed towards the foot, fearful that something may have happened to him, if this was indeed Theo. Deep within a large cluster of leaves, cradled perfectly by some outstretching branches, lay Theo, on his back, snoring his head off. Lexi tried calling his name a number of times, but it proved pointless, she was too small for him to hear her. She sat upon his hand for a moment, pondering how she could possibly get his attention. She looked down at the ring, Harrier said it transported people between this Realm and the larger world, does it work both ways?, she thought. But how?, the ring glistened in her hand, teasing her. She focused all of her attention on the ring, closed her eyes and thought of the larger world. She felt an odd sensation, followed by a sudden cracking sound. She opened her eyes immediately, to realise she had indeed managed to get the ring to work. In the process, adding too much weight to the branch, sending both herself and Theo, plummeting to the ground. She managed to release her wings just in time, grabbing a stunned, drowsy Theo in the process.

They landed upon the ground gently, Lexi swiftly retracting her wings out of sight, just in case anyone was around.

‘Where have you been!?’, Theo exclaimed, thrilled to see Lexi. She smiled at him warmly, as he threw himself into her open arms.

‘The other Realm’, she teased. His mouth dropped open.

‘Where is it?’ he questioned, bouncing around with excitement. ‘Is it in another dimension? Can I go there?’. She pointed towards the Great Elm,

‘You see that Large tree with the toadstool ring in front of it?, where we disappeared?’, he nodded enthusiastically. ‘Well Rowan and Amber, and her girlfriend Robin, are sat down there on one of those mushrooms, waiting for us. And that tree, that’s where the people of the other Realm all live’. Theo’s eyes went wide with amazement.

‘No Way!’, he exclaimed, ‘So it’s a mini-Realm? Wait? Amber has a girlfriend?’ he questioned, then shrugged, ‘that’s pretty cool!’. He paused for a moment, seemingly thinking.

‘Is that where the guy came from, that I’ve been seeing?’. Lexi looked at him quizzically,

‘What guy?’ she queried.

‘He’s a big dude, black hair and a beard. I hid in the bushes every time I heard him coming, I got a bad feeling about him.
