We walk together without exchanging any words. It feels as if we’ve been doing this our whole lives. I hold the door of the deck open and he gives me a shy smile as he goes through. I feel my heart full knowing he came for me again, that he knew I would be there.

“Where were you? I thought you would still be at the restaurant.” I question as we walk in the direction of the poll, to the loungers where we sat yesterday.

“We had an early dinner. I just came back.” He answers me while making himself comfortable in his seat.

The sky is prettier today, a bit darker and making the moon look bigger and brighter.

“How did you know I would be there?”

“I didn’t. But I tried my luck.”

“Ballsy move, Mr”

I make him laugh and my chest feels lighter.

“How was your day?” He asks the question and it brings me all the good things that happened today.

“I worked in the kitchen today. I loved it.”

“So... Do you cook?” Ravi looks very interested. I stretch myself a bit and begin to think.

“I always liked to cook for fun. Cooking for my friends and family, without any expectations. Trying a few recipes I saw online and all that.” My mind goes to the times I invited my friends over to watch movies or when my family came to visit, all those times my cooking was connected to people being happy. “I guess I never thought about maybe doing it professionally, but today it really looked like I could do it.”

“I think you can do it, Theo.”

I blush at his sudden encouragement.

“Why are you blushing?”

“I’m not used to people just blindly believing in me. I mean, only my friend Lo does.”

“Why do you think I’m blind?”

“You barely know me.” I say and the realization of that feels like a punch in my gut.

He barely knows me, yet for some crazy reason it feels like I know him so much longer than we do. As cheesy as might sound.

“And what does that have to do with anything?”

I turn to him and I’m struck by his handsomeness. Nothing, I realise as the objections die on my tongue. Being with him is so comfortable that suddenly time itself stops. The night goes by in a flash, with us sharing random stories and fears, like we needed to share every piece of our souls with each other.

“I was so scared of the dark I had to sleep with a Paddington bear because my mother told me he would scare the monsters away.”

“And you really believed her, Theo? You thought little Paddy would fight monsters for you.”

“I swear to you this was the only way I could sleep. One day my dog destroyed it and it took me forever to sleep in the dark again.”

He laughed, while sharing his life with me. From the lighter to the darker moments.

“I used to pray at night that I wouldn’t be gay. I was so scared of what my parents would do, or that they wouldn’t talk to me again.
