Chapter Six

Josh raised a hand in greeting as riders came to a halt just outside their camp. He kept

his face impassive with effort since what he really wanted to do was head higher up the

mountain. Right now, he could barely tolerate being around Matt.

He didn’t want anyone else to see him like this.

As if he could feel some of the confusion in Josh, Matt stepped closer to him. “Who are

they?” he asked.

“Another cowboy and his guests from our trail guide service,” Josh answered. It was the

new guy, Daniel Masters, along with a couple of men who headed towards their campfire

after getting down off their horses.

“Dan,” he acknowledged. “You’re welcome here. There’s fresh coffee on.”

Dan nodded back, a lanky brunette with soft hazel eyes. He was around the same age as

Josh and Matt. The two men he was acting as a guide for were older, looking to be in their

early thirties with the hot, red tan of men who are spending time outdoors after being city

dwellers.

“This is Neil and Drake Sanderson,” Dan introduced the two strangers. “They also

wanted to see if they could get a glimpse of the mustangs while they fished in the higher

elevations.”

“Nice stream not so far from here,” Josh heard himself suggest by rote. Neil was tubby,

with a friendly face whereas Drake had a hard one that fitted with his slate grey eyes. Josh

noticed he was staring at Matt.

Instinctively, Josh moved in front of Matt.

Drake raised a brow.

“If you want to go fishing, the stream is up that way.” Josh nodded to indicate the

direction.

“So Matt mentioned you’re hurt,” Drake Sanderson said when Josh returned from

seeing to the horses. The corral was still a bit patched together so Josh had preferred to handle

it, moving the logs aside he’d braced temporarily.

Feeling the older man’s speculative gaze on him, Josh’s jaw tightened. Matt had spoken

to the visitors freely after holding him off with sign for days. “I’m not hurt.”

Matt looked up at him, and he held Matt’s dark eyes. “We can keep going today if you

want.”

“Don’t be stupid,” Matt said flatly.

Josh reached for the coffee and burned his hand. “Fuck!” He glared at Matt. “You want to

stay here?”

“Drake has been up here before and seen the wild mustangs. He’s been telling me all

about it.”

“Oh has he?” Josh murmured, rubbing the reddened spot on his thumb. He tried again

to pour some coffee, ignoring the hand that Matt reached out to steady the pot.

“Yes, he has. Also, here’s a plus—he’s not in a for-shit mood.”

“I’m not.”

“Right.” Matt was rubbing his temple as if Josh was giving him a headache.

“Neil wants to go fishing, so I’m going to take him to the stream.”

Josh thought he saw something in Matt’s eyes…maybe a memory of what they’d shared

the last time they’d been at the waterfall. He swallowed thickly and got to his feet, reliving in a

hot moment what it had been like to have Matt go down on him, the way he’d held Josh’s hips

tightly, the way he’d sucked cock as if he
