After hours and hours of that pointless and time wasting meeting, I escape to my balcony needing to be free of this castle, even if I can’t physically leave it.

They aren't going to search, at least not any time soon. Had one of our guards seen this and we were back in our own kingdom then it would be easier, we could just go. Because the sighting happened during this time of fragile truce, we have to work together, which is not something our kingdoms are good at or keen on doing. These meetings will continue to go on and on, until eventually we come to an agreement, but since both kings are so distrustful of each other, this is unlikely to happen soon and we will lose her again.

For once I agree with Octavius’s more rash nature. This is the first sighting in twenty years! We might never get another opportunity. My logical nature is trying to reason with my heart, which is screaming at me that we can’t afford to wait here any longer.

Knocking on my door pulls me from my musing. I turn toward the door with a frown. Who would be here so late? The person starts pounding harder as I pause, which jolts me into action. Swimming to the door, I open it with a stern frown, knowing who it would be as soon as he lost his patience. Only one person would pound on a crowned prince’s door.

“Octavius, what are you—”

“Good, you’re up.” As he barges into my room, I run my eyes over the Freshwater Prince. His hair is disheveled and his eyes are wild as they dart around my room searching for something. For what? I cannot tell and I am not even sure that he really knows.

“What are you doing here?” I try asking him again, and this time he meets my eyes. A rakish smile crosses his face and I know that I’m not going to like what he has to say.

“I’m helping you pack of course. Our fathers are taking too long. I’m not going to just float around here while they compare tail lengths. We have to leave. Now.”

“Where are we going?” I question, my excitement rising even as my brain starts to come up with all the reasons we have to stay here. His grin gets even wider, his eyes sparkling with excitement.

“We’re going to find our mate.”
