Chapter 10
News Flash
Closing the book, Ace and I both released a breath neither of us knew we had been holding.
Shaking my head, I bit my lip as I thought for a moment. âThis doesnât make sense. Their town was called Widowâs Peak. Plus, it said that they never looked back.â
âYeah, what relevance does this have to our situation?â Ace inquired.
Marshall chuckled before answering. âYou two are so caught up in yourselves, you canât see what is right in front of you,â he began. âThis mother and daughter have moved around the country, wreaking havoc on towns and their residents for years. It appears, they have moved here after taking over the bodies of innocent people. This story was written by someone who survived their attack a few years ago. It has never been published and was acquired by the Crow Haven Council. I didnât ask,â he stated.
âOk, so we know a mother and daughter have moved into town, posing as humans. But why are they going after Lizzie?â Ace asked.
âLike I told you both before. Lizzie possesses great powers. She attracts evil and this mother and daughter want Lizzieâs powers for themselves. They will grow stronger without Lizzie being around. More than anything, they want her necklace,â Marshall finished.
âHow do we stop them?â I cried out.
I was shaking now and Ace wrapped his arm around me, trying to console me.
Marshall stood and held up his pointer finger, a knowing smile on his face. He walked over to the large window and seemed to stare out into the nothingness.
âWe have to bring them to us and then, Lizzie, you will stop them,â Marshall stated.
âBut how?â I cried out, confused and filled with dread.
âThat I am unable to answer for you. As a Shadow Seeker, you are supposed to tap into your powers to figure this out. Just know, you have the Crowâs on your side,â Marshall finished.
A loud pounding on the front door caused all of us to jump and turn toward the long hallway just outside the office.
âAnd, it appears the Crows are right on time,â Marshall smiled.
Standing, I looked around as Thomas, Nora, and Maylee rushed to the front door. Ace looked anxious, but the angry scowl had disappeared from his face.
As we moved down the long hallway, I heard the front door open and my strides slowed as four of the most beautiful people I had ever seen stood in the doorway.
Outside, the sky had turned black and large, white snowflakes danced around the figures, like tiny diamonds sparkling just for them.
It was so angelic and magical, it almost took my breath away.
As I approached, they all turned their attention on me. Each one had long, coal black hair, white eyes, and looked like they werenât real at all.
Blinking, I made sure that I wasnât hallucinating.
A woman, wearing a crimson red coat looked my way and said, âThis must be the Shadow Seeker.â
Ace reached for my hand, squeezing as he stepped closer to me.
âYes, Iâm Lizzie,â I said, my voice shaking.
