The real question is to what extent this is a reasonable and realistic simulation of a turboprop engine. It’s generally accepted that FSX doesn’t do a very good job with turboprops. The turboprop model in FSX is supposed to be based on the Pratt & Whitney Canada PT6A, which is the kind of engine fitted to the Twin Otter, but there is a general consensus that it is not very well modelled. This seems to be borne out in practice. This simple test shows a clear difference from flying a jet, but the main stated benefit from the turboprop is that it’s supposed to give us much more precise control of the power settings.
