Becklyn

Sitting at home, snuggled up on the couch watching Golden Girls reruns, my phone rings. I see that it is Rosy. That’s weird. She never calls me. It is always a text message.

I pick up, “What’s up, hooker?”

Rosy cries, “He’s dead. Logan is dead.”

Panic creeps over me, I ask, “What?”

“Logan. My dad just told me. Have you talked to Presley?”

I start to cry. “What do you mean, Logan is dead?

“He is dead. Presley won’t pick up when I call her. She has to be wrecked.”

Tears stream down my cheeks. I can’t believe what I am hearing. This cannot be true. Not Logan. I need to talk to Presley. But I need to give her time. She should reach out to me. What the fuck am I thinking? I weep, “Rosy, please tell me you are fucking with me? Logan is fine.”

“I wish. My dad just told me. He talked with Pres’ dad. I just can’t believe it. We need to talk to her.”

I can’t do this now. I bawl, “Rosy, he can’t be dead. Oh my God, no. I need to let you go.”

Before she could comment further, I hung up the phone and lost my damn mind. Logan. Not Logan. My first major crush. The one man who was always there for us. Told us the truth about how we acted. He looked out for all of us, not just Presley. What the fuck? Stupid military taking him away from us. Oh my GOD. I wrap myself in a blanket and break down. It just can’t be true.

I grab my phone again and text Presley.

Becklyn: I’m sorry. I love you.

Presley: Thank you. Love you. I’ll be in touch soon. Just can’t right now.

Becklyn: Rosy and I are here for you when you need us.

Presley: Thanks.

I set my phone down on the coffee table. I curl up more and let the tears flow until I fall asleep.

The buzzing from my phone wakes me up. I look down to see who in their right mind is bugging me. I don’t want to be bugged. I just want to sleep. The only person who can bug me right now is Presley. And she isn’t going to call me right now. I grab my phone and see the same unknown number that texted me earlier. All they asked is if I was okay. I have no clue who it is.

The message read, I’m here.

I scratch my head, wondering who the hell is here. I still don’t know the number.

Becklyn: Who's here?

Unknown name: Me.

Becklyn: I’m not in the mood for games. Who’s me?

Unknown Name: Smith!

Smith? Then the lightbulb goes off. Westin!

Becklyn: Seriously?

Smith: Open up.

Becklyn: Fine

I buzz his demanding ass in and then there is a knock on my door. I get up from the couch and head to the door. I look through the peephole. Granted, I know who is here. Habit, I guess. I open the door, and Westin comes barging in like he owns the damn place.

I say, “Well, hello to you.”

He turns and grabs the hell out of me and kisses me.
