MEIS EXPRESS

Visiting the teensy Greek island of Meis (Kastellorizo) is a popular day-trip from Kaş. The Meis Express Ferry ( GOOGLE MAP ; same-day return €25) sails throughout the year at 10am (10.30am in winter) and returns at 4pm (3pm in winter). The voyage takes 20 minutes. Meis is a simple fishing village of cute pastel-coloured houses with a sprinkling of restaurants, a superb bakery, a duty-free shop selling Greek wine and pork, some excellent hikes over the hill and a decent museum. From Meis' harbour it's also easy to arrange boat trips to swim inside the fabulously surreal blue cave along the island's coast.

It's possible to spend the night in Meis, or continue onwards into Greece proper. There are ferries to Rhodes (€21.50, five hours) three times a week and a high-speed catamaran (€35, 2½ hours, every Wednesday) in summer. Meis even has a tiny landing strip from where you can fly to Rhodes (€40, 40 minutes) at 5.30pm Friday to Wednesday. On Meis, your best source of information is Papoutsis Travel (%+30 22460 49 286).

Tickets for Meis can be bought from Meis Express ( GOOGLE MAP ; %836 1725; www.meisexpress.com) in the harbour or any travel agency. If you haven't booked your ticket the day before, make sure you arrive a half-hour before sailing.
