CHAPTER SIXTEEN

Marcus thought about what he and Delisha had done. Their lovemaking was like nothing he had ever experienced, but he had enjoyed it, and he believed she had enjoyed it too. But the one thing he didn’t believe for a minute was that she didn’t love him. He felt she was just scared. Given the time and opportunity, he knew she would jump in his arms in a heartbeat. He had waited all his life for her. He would give her that time.

He called her, and her phone went straight to voicemail. He decided to leave a message.

“Hey, D. I’m calling to apologize again. I have to respect your decision to stay married even though I think it’s a mistake. I want to work things out for the sake of our child. We need to get along for the next eighteen years. Please call me so we can work out a schedule. Love you.”

Marcus looked back down at his phone at the same time he got a visual voicemail from Delisha. He had somehow missed the call.

“Damn,” he said as he pushed the button and listened to Delisha’s message.

“Hi, Marcus. I’m up for discussion. I want our daughter to have the best of both worlds. Call me when you’re free.” Even though she didn’t say she loved him, she sounded so good and sexy that it put a priceless grin on his face. He hurriedly called her back.

“Hey, D. Thanks for calling back.”

“No problem. I want the best for our daughter.”

“So do I. I spoke to a child psychologist and he told me that it’s best for the absent parent to start off by being there either when the child wakes up or before she goes to bed. That way the bonding process can begin.”

“I’ve never heard of that, but it sounds interesting. I’m willing to try it. What time does she wake up?”

“She wakes up at six in the morning. Are you sure you’ll be able to get out that early?”

“I can do anything that involves helping my child. I’ll be there tomorrow at six in the morning.”

“See you then.”

“Ok.” Marcus hung up the phone and couldn’t contain his huge grin. Everything seemed to be working in his favor.

Aaron smiled at Phillip, dapped him up, and led the way into the crowded strip club. “I don’t know why you wanted to meet here. The drinks are watered down, and the prices are too high.”

“They got some fine women, and the lap dances are everything. Besides, I needed to unwind a bit.”

“Yeah. If your wife finds out, she’s gone unwind your ass.

“She ain’t thinking about me. She too busy decorating the restaurant.”

“Man, I told you not to spend your own money on things like that. I’ll give you anything you need to make the place look better.”

“You should see how she got it looking. We made a killing last week based on the renovation alone.”

“Your wife’s a genius when it comes to decorating. She has a lot of great ideas too.
